About Sarah

Sarah M. Vasquez is a writer and photographer based in Marfa, Texas. She is known for her award-winning coverage of the Far West Texas region for the Big Bend Sentinel newspaper. She interned at Marfa Public Radio before joining the Big Bend Sentinel as a general assignment reporter and photographer.


Her writing has appeared in Latinx Spaces, Texas Observer, Hyperallergic, Luz Media and Texas Highways, and her photography has appeared in NBC News, New York Times and Texas Tribune. Prior to moving to Marfa, she started her website, SoManyBands, in 2003, covering the Austin music scene. She also wrote for UWeekly Magazine, Red River Noise and Austin Vida.


She received an Associates of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Austin Community College and Texas State University respectively. She produced award-winning work for the Accent newspaper and KTSW 89.9 radio station and was selected to participate in the Poynter College Fellowship in 2011.
