Welcoming Carissa Conteh to Mass Comm Week
Mass Communications Week is full of amazing speakers and panels this year from various communications fields. Carissa Conteh is a former University of Texas student who received her master’s degree at Texas State University in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and will be one of the guest speakers.
Conteh started her career in the field of communications as a marketing intern for Aegis Media, while being a student worker coordinator at the UT Office of Registrar. After she graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Public and Human Relations, Conteh landed a job with HCB Health as a Freelance Traffic Coordinator. Conteh facilitated communication among all departments to ensure a timely and orderly workflow as well as updated schedules, created weekly status reports and daily hotlists. Conteh worked her way up within the company and was promoted to a project coordinator and then to an account executive. Eventually, Conteh’s time with HCB Health came to an end, and she went on to become an account supervisor at Saatchi & Saatchi.
Saatchi & Saatchi is a multinational communications and advertising agency network with 114 offices in 76 countries and over 6,500 staff members. It was founded in 1970 and is currently headquartered in London. Conteh works in the Dallas office, where she works very closely with Toyota. Conteh says she never has a boring day at work as every day she is doing something different.
Conteh’s biggest piece of advice to current students is to take full advantage of working or interning during school. Conteh feels very strongly that students need real-life work experience in addition to a degree. Mass Comm Week is a great place to build connections, start to network and look for internships. The updated Mass Comm Week schedule will be posted soon, so make sure you check the schedule and look for Conteh so you can hear about her experience and advice!
