SAN MARCOS– Justin Johnson, who has only been out of college for three-and-a-half years, visited students at Texas State to talk about his success from writing for the Huffington Post to working as a service professional for Facebook.
His speech was inspirational as he talked about how he came from a single-parent home and was the first person in his family to attend college. He inspired students to set goals and dream big dreams.
“Johnson was incredibly insightful on reaching out and connecting on a human level,” said Texas State student Kayla Haack.
“To be interesting you must be interested.” Johnson said as he was giving advice on how to network. Encouraging students to listen to those around them no matter who the person may be.
“Johnson definitely motivated me to strive for my future,” said student Laura Valencia. Johnson discussed how he has never really had a plan in life but takes advantage of the opportunities he gets in life.
Johnson talked about having goals in mind to do every day. An example he gave was to meet a new person every day or setting a goal of doing a certain amount of pushups every day for a year.
“Johnson gave me some pro tips today,” said student Matt Parry. Johnson was mainly giving tips on how to stand out to those that you meet.
Johnson was a big hit as there was a line of students waiting to thank him afterwards. He was definitely a highlight of Mass Comm Week for anyone that was able to make it.
