Jim McNabb: Mass communication week

Jim McNabb will be giving advice to communication students about his 40-plus-year experience as a broadcast journalist on Oct. 20 during Texas State’s mass communication week.

McNabb graduated with a BA in Oral Communications – Radio and Television from Baylor University and earned an MA from The University of Texas in Austin in Radio – Television – and Film. McNabb taught in the Journalism Department in the 1980’s at Texas State, then known as Southwest University. He taught history of Broadcasting, commercial writing for radio and television and basic journalism classes.

McNabb has helped shape the news in Austin. During his career he has been a TV news manager, talent, reporter and photographer. He has also been a radio news director twice.
McNabb has been around to see the changes occurring in media. He has seen how radio is virtually disappearing and newspapers are dwindling. He has found the necessity for multimedia, other ways to reach the community. He has created his own blog site newsmcnabb.com.
At his highest levels of his career in journalism include former managing editor at KXAN TV, news assignment manager at KEYE TV and the number one weather reporter at KTBC TV, all stations in Austin.

McNabb shows a variety of journalistic abilities as he was also the news director KTBC AM and PM and KASA/KVET Radio in Austin.

Before his career in Austin, McNabb also worked at KCEN TV in Waco.
Throughout his career he has excelled in areas as a TV news editor, talent, reporter and photographer as well as a radio news director twice.

In addition to all of his work he puts into his career, McNabb also finds time to be a singer/songwriter. At this time he has seven albums out.
