Social media experts and Texas State alumni came together Thursday to give advice to students about the digital world.

The speakers included Cody Herring, a digital strategist for White Hat Agency, Emily Burns, associate editor at The Berry, Taylor Wood, a marketing analyst for Resignation Media and Andrea Windmeyer, a creative strategist for Unique Influence.

The panel spoke to a crowded room in the LBJ Student Center and answered questions on internships and advertising in the digital age.

Keeping tabs on a company and doing research are some of the things Wood talked about.

“Doing your research and going in with a strong base and asking questions at the end of the interview can be great,” Wood said.

Students asked the panelists questions on entering the workplace and negotiating salaries.

“Referrals are great, but if you ever give a referral make sure they can 100 percent cand do the job.” Wood said. Photo by: Alexis Aguirre

Wood advised students to look to their resources like salary.com to determine their worth.

“It was actual people in the field doing the stuff that I actually hope to be doing and not some random CEO,” said public relations major, Janis Blackwell.

Advertising junior Emma Guinn said she found their advice helpful, including Herring’s tip to find out what they are good at and finding jobs in that area.

“I liked how they talked to us about how to navigate the world and get those jobs and what I needed to get hired,” Guinn said. “Their advice on which things to learn was really useful and very specific.”
